Skin benefits
✓ Cocoa butter is renowned for its ability to protect against free radicals.
Free radicals are molecules in the human body that are essentially "out of whack." They are highly reactive substances that can cause damage to cells, leading to impaired function or even cell death. Antioxidants, on the other hand, are substances that can prevent damage caused by free radicals.
Cocoa butter naturally contains a variety of antioxidants. They combat oxidative stress that leads to skin aging.

Oleic acids found in cocoa butter can help hydrate the skin. These fats can create a protective barrier on the skin, preventing moisture loss and dehydration.
✓ Cocoa butter protects the skin from harmful effects.

✓ Cocoa butter for sensitive skin
Cocoa butter is very suitable for sensitive skin, providing natural hydration with minimal risk of irritation.
✓ Cocoa butter for stretch marks and scars
It is believed that Cocoa butter helps rejuvenate skin cells and stimulates the growth of new ones. Thus, reducing stretch marks’ visibility and accelerating the healing of scars (caused by burns, acne, etc).
✓ Cocoa butter as lip balm
Cocoa butter forms a protective barrier that retains moisture in the lips and helps them become softer and more beautiful.
✓ Cocoa butter as an ingredient in sunscreen products
Cocoa butter has a natural sun protection factor (between 5 and 10), but it’s not enough to prevent sunburn. However, when combined with other ingredients (such as raspberry seed oil, wheat germ oil, and zinc oxide), it can contribute to creating an effective sun protection product.
When is it appropriate to apply cocoa butter or skincare products that contain it?
It is considered that the best time to apply cocoa butter on the skin is in the evening. At night, the skin experiences less oxidative stress, making it more receptive to absorbing nourishing products. According to studies, it can penetrate the epidermis (outer layer of the skin) and the dermis (skin’s inner layer) and help restore their cells.

What types of cocoa butter are there?
Two types of cocoa butter can be used for cosmetic purposes - unrefined (raw) and refined.
Raw cocoa butter is not heated to a high temperature when processed. Therefore, it is believed that it preserves all the useful fats. Unrefined cocoa butter typically has a stronger aroma compared to its refined version.
Refined cocoa butter is often deodorized, resulting in a milder cocoa scent. However, like with any refined product, this means losing some beneficial qualities. Still, some cosmetic manufacturers prefer refined cocoa butter when they aim for a different aroma in the final product.
