Ginger essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the roots of the plant Zingiber Officinale. The color of the oil is amber yellow. Its aroma is exotic, slightly spicy, with a hint of citrus.
Studies have shown that ginger oil contains compounds, such as gingerol and its secondary metabolites, that reduce biomarkers of inflammation and act as modulators of the immune system. It is believed that ginger essential oil also has analgesic properties, so it can be an aid in dealing with pain of various type – muscle, menstrual and others. Diffusion of ginger oil could also relieve symptoms such as nausea and general upset stomach. It also has an aphrodisiac effect.
Ginger oil is also used successfully in skin care. It has strong antioxidant properties, which can help protect the skin from damage caused by free radicals. In addition, the astringent, anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties of ginger oil make it suitable for application on acne-prone skin.
